EMBRUN – The 5 Cyclone Squadron held their 12th Annual Ceremonial Review on Sat., May 27, at the Embrun Arena. The event included demonstrations from the Squadron Band and Squadron Competition Drill Team, awards and presentations, speeches, followed by a reception.
The Reviewing Officer was Colonel Richard Harvie, the Chief of Staff (Development) with the Canadian Forces Intelligence Command and the Intelligence Branch Advisor. Colonel Harvie carefully inspected the Cadets and when satisfied with their performance, headed to his seat of honour to enjoy the rest of the demonstrations.
The training year includes competitions and training in Band, Biathlon, Marksmanship, Drill, Ground School and Effective Speaking. The Annual Review is the finale to a year of hard work by the young men and women Cadets.
The Award’s Parade took place on Tues., May 23, where a number of Cadets were honoured with the awards. Athlete and Sportsmanship Award – Cdt Alexis Atkinson; Marksmanship Award – WO2 Porteous, S and Sgt Ferguson, J; Top Bandsman Award – Cpl Joshua Ferguson; Biathlon Award – Sgt Johnny Quenneville; Drill Team MVP Award – Sgt Samantha Theriault; Top Flight Award (Medal) – Band and Flag Party, Top Instructor Award – WO2 Sabrinna Porteous; and Effective Speaking Plaque – Cpl Isabelle Ranger.
The Annual Review Awards were presented on May 27 after the demonstrations. Top Cadet Award – Warrant Officer Second Class Sabrina Porteous; Community Spirit Award – Cadet Flight Sergeant Jacob Ferguson; bronze medal for the Duke of Edinburg Award – Cadet Flight Seargeant Laurie Guilbault and Flight Sergeant Jacob Ferguson.
