Yellow welcomed Blue in the first game of the evening in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., June 1. CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League opened the night with Yellow welcoming Blue in the early game on Thursday at the Chesterville Arena and Red welcomed Black in the late game.

Blue 1 Yellow 0
In the first game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League, Yellow welcomed Blue. Blue was riding a five-game winning streak and looked to remain undefeated on the season. Yellow sat in second place with two wins and a tie and could close to within three points of Blue.

After a scoreless first period, Blue opened the scoring at 13:52 of the second period as Carly Crump sniped one from Rebecca Kennedy and Rhonda Boulanger to take a 1-0 lead. Blue was running out of gas late in the second period with only one spare on the bench but managed to carry the 1-0 lead into the second period.

Blue got their second wind in the third period putting most of the pressure on Yellow as Yellow had trouble exiting their zone. Cashelle Baldwin kept Yellow in the game with miraculous saves but it wasn’t enough as Blue took the game 1-0. Picking up the win Blues’ goal was Roxanne Crump.

In the second game of the night, Red welcomed Black. In their last meeting the teams combined for 12 goals but it was Red coming away with a 7-5 victory. It was going to prove difficult for Red as they were playing the game without a goalie. Black was still looking for their first win of the season.

Black opened the scoring at 6:48 of the first period as Kaila Beckstead snapped one home from Alyson Erwin to take a 1-0 lead. Red knotted the affair when Lesley Ann Tupper slipped one to the back of the net from Geena Rose and Kim Elliott at 12:03.

With just 54 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Black retook the lead when Beckstead scored her second of the game from Jessica Winters and Paulette Levesque. Black took the 2-1 lead into the second period.

Red tied the game again at 14:28 when Catia Dias scored from Rose and Elliott and took a 3-2 lead at 15:59 as Lindsay Feeley lit the lamp from Katie Currie. Red took a 3-2 lead into the third period.

Red took a two-goal lead when Rose bulged the twine from Tupper and Janice Casselman at 5:30 of the third period. Black got one back at 9:33 as Winters blasted one home from Erwin to make 4-3.

With 1:37 showing on the clock Black tied the game when Beckstead scored her hat-trick goal from Winters. Neither team could score to pick up a victory as they settled for a four-all draw.
