KINGSTON — The Russell U14/U13 Raiders Boys’ soccer travelled to the Ambassador Cup in Kingston on the weekend of July 21-23. This team almost didn’t exist at the beginning of the season due to lack of players and coach – now they are 18 strong. The Raiders entered the Ambassador tournament in Kingston just hoping to at least compete at the higher level.
The Raiders played teams from Hamilton, Kingston and Woolwich to enter into the semifinal against Quinte. They went on to defeat Quinte and advanced to the Championship final against the Gloucester Hornets. The teams were evenly matched and after regulation the game ended in a one-all draw.
The game ended in a shootout as the Raiders scored two and Hornets nil making the final score 3-1 with the Raiders taking home the gold medal.
