In the late game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., May 3, it was the battle of the two teams who dropped their first game in last weeks opener. The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League entered week two with the two unbeaten teams facing off against each other. Yellow defeated Red in their first game 3-0 and Blue scored a victory over Green 5-0 so it was an early battle for first place. CHESTERVILLE—The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League went into week number two on Thurs., May 3, with two games on the slate. In the first game Yellow played host to Blue and in the late game Red was the home team and they welcomed Green. After the first week of action, Yellow and Blue were tied for first as both won.

Blue 5 Yellow 1: In the first game of the evening Red welcomed Blue. The two teams went into the game tied at two points atop the standings after both won their previous game, so a win for either team would mean sole possession of first place. Blue opened the scoring just 2:11 into the first period when Jaclyn Crump fired one home from Carly Crump and Sam Benoit to take a 1-0 lead.

Blue made it 2-0 when Benoit powered one to the back of the net from Jacklyn Crump and Leigh Ann Dearing at 8:54. Yellow got that one back at 10:37 as Jackie Morris snapped one home from Jessica Winters and Heather Erwin. Blue took a 2-1 lead into the second period.

Blue scored the lone goal of the second period as Jaclyn Crump scored her second goal of the game from Benoit and Dearing at 7:56 taking a 3-1 lead into the third period. Yellow tried to catch the high flying Blue team but with 3:55 remaining in regulation, Blue made it 4-1 as Carly Crump slapped one to the back of the cage from Rebecca Alves and Benoit.

Blue made it 5-1 with just 2:01 remaining as Carly Crump scored her second of the game from Jaclyn Crump and Benoit. Blue took the game 5-1 and sit alone atop the standings with four points after two games.

Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Roxanne Crump and suffering the loss in Yellow’s goal was Patti Mitton.

Red 1 Green 0: In the second game of the soiree, Red hosted Green. Both teams were shut out in the first week as both teams were in search of their first win of the season. The two teams battled to a scoreless first period which meant neither team had scored in four periods.

Red ended the scoreless drought of both teams when Emma Grady sniped one from Kaila Beckstead at 2:39 of the second period to take a 1-0 lead. Neither team was able to put one past the other’s goalkeepers but Red took a 1-0 lead heading into the third period.

Both teams battled in the final frame but neither were able to find the back of the net allowing Red to pick up their first win of the season moving into a second place tie with Yellow. Green will be looking for their first goal of the season as they head to week three.

Picking up the victory in Red’s goal was Julie Shaver and suffering the loss in Green’s goal was Cashelle Baldwin.

Up next: In the first game of the night in week three of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League, Yellow welcomes Green at 7 p.m. and Red plays host to Blue at 8 p.m.
