CHESTERVILLE—The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League entered week three on Thurs., May 9, with Blue leading with four points followed by Yellow and Red with two each and Green with zero. The first game featured Yellow hosting Green and in the night cap, Blue played host to Red.

Yellow 3 Green 0: In the first game of the evening, Yellow welcomed Green. Both teams came up short in week two and Yellow looked to tie Blue at the top of the standings while Green was looking for their first win of 2018 and also their first goal after being shutout twice in their opening two games.

The two teams battled to a scoreless first period. Yellow opened the scoring when Jessica Winters pounded one home from Michelle Lang and Jackie Morris at 6:59 of the second period. Yellow hung on to the 1-0 lead heading into the third period.

Yellow made it 2-0 when Winters scored her second of the game from Morris and Shannon McRae at 6:07 of the third period. Laura Melenhorst scored at 8:20 from Lindsay Waddell and McRae to give Yellow a 3-0 lead.

Green tried to score to end their scoreless drought but it was Yellow taking the game 3-0 as Green’s scoring woes continue. Yellow temporarily moved into a first-place tie with Blue with the win.

Picking up the win in Yellow’s goal was Pattie Mitton and suffering the loss was Cashelle Baldwin.

Blue 4 Red 2: In the second game of the night, Blue played the host to Red. Both teams won their game in week two but Blue was two points ahead of Red in the standings. Red opened the scoring when Kim Elliott fired one home from Lesley-Ann Tupper and Sam Naish at 5:40 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead.

Blue tied the game when Kara Bartholomew slapped one to the back of the net from Lindsay Cummins and Sam Benoit. Neither team was able to score before the first period drew to a close, taking a one-all draw into the second period.

It was all Blue in the second period as Jaclyn Crump snapped one home from Leigh Ann Dearing and Benoit at 4:07 to make it 2-1. Blue made it 3-1 when Cummins lit the lamp at 8:10 from Bartholomew and Dearing and 4-1 as Cummins scored her second consecutive goal with just 28 seconds remaining in the middle frame from Bartholomew and Kelly Francis. Blue took the 4-0 lead into the third period.

Red got to within two at the 8-minute mark of the third as Tupper sniped one from Elliott and Lindsay Feeley. Red could not complete the comeback as Blue went onto take the game 4-2.

With the win, Blue moves into sole possession of first place. Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Roxanne Crump and suffering the loss in Red’s goal was Julia Shaver.
