RUSSELL—The St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School Ravens Intermediate Boys Basketball team welcomed the Rockland District High School Wildcats on Wed., May 9, in PRSSAA. The ravens sat alone at the top of the standings and looked to remain undefeated on the season as they headed into their last week of the regular season. Rockland sat in third place and really had no place to go.

Ravens 48 Wildcats 30: The Ravens’ offence was good early on in the first quarter scoring 18 points and their defence held the Wildcats to 10. The Ravens’ defence was the story in the second quarter only allowing two buckets for four points and their offence put up another 10 points. The Ravens took a 28-14 lead into the dressing room at halftime.

The Ravens scored another 13 points in the third quarter and held the Wildcats to just seven taking a 41-21 lead into the final quarter. The Wildcats actually won the fourth quarter scoring nine points and allowing the Ravens only seven but it wasn’t enough as the Ravens took the game 48-30.

With the victory, the Ravens were undefeated through the 2018 regular season and earned the right to host the PRSSAA Championship.

Scoring for the Ravens were: Callum Birch with 12 points, James Verspeek with nine, Aurel Tebeu with seven, Kaden Mikkelson with five, Max Messervey and Jacob Belair with four, Logan Kinsella with a tray and Tanner Smith and Cole Eikelboom scored deuces.

Up next: With their victory, the Ravens earned a bye to the PRSSAA final on Thurs., May at 1 p.m. The Russell High School T-Wolves will take on the Wildcats in the semifinal at 11 a.m. with the winner moving on to face the Ravens.
