RUSSELL—The St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School Ravens Girl’s basketball team travelled across town to the Russell High School for a three game regular season round robin on Wed., May 9 as they took on the home-town T-Wolves and then the St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School Falcons.

Ravens 36 Falcons 22: After defeating the T-Wolves in their opening match of the day, the first place Ravens kept their unbeaten season intact with just their game to finish out the season as they took on the second place Falcons.

The first quarter was a bit of a yawner as both teams played a defensive style game with the Ravens outscoring the Falcons 8-3. The Falcons took control of the game scoring 14 points in the second quarter holding the Ravens to just one bucket. The Falcons took a 17-10 lead into the break at the half.

The Ravens rebounded after the break offensively with 11 points and defensively holding the Falcons to just three points taking a slim 21-20 lead into the final quarter.

It was almost a carbon copy of the third quarter as the Ravens controlled both sides of the ball scoring 15 points and shutting down the Falcons offence to just two points. The Ravens took the game 36-22 completing the regular season undefeated heading into the playoffs.

Scoring for the Ravens were: Makenzie Campbell with 11 points, Emma Gabriel with seven, Emma Gaudet with six, Emily Way and Riley Daniel each with four and Hannah Martin and Rachel Drevniok each scored deuces.

Up next: In the first game, on Wed., May 16, the Russell High School T-Wolves will take on the Falcons at 11 a.m. and the winner will meet the Ravens at 1 p.m.
