GREELY—The Winchester Bantam Girls Red Sox played two games this past week as they welcomed ROMSA #1 on Monday night and travelled to Greely on Wednesday night to take on Greely #1.

Sox 13 ROMSA #1 3: The Winchester Bantam Girls Red Sox welcomed the Rideau Osgoode Minor Softball Association (ROMSA 1) to the 100 Club Ball Park on Mon., May 14, in the Rural Ottawa Softball Association (ROSA). The Sox looked to keep their undefeated streak going after taking their previous two games to open the season.

The Red Sox defence was hot early shutting down ROMSA’s offence in the top. Of the first quarter allowing five batters to the plate leaving two runners on the bags. The Red Sox bat were working scoring the maximum four runs in the bottom of the inning taking a 4-0 lead into the second inning.

ROMSA got two runs back in the top of the second but again, the Red Sox answered with another four runs to make it an 8-2 ball game. ROMSA struggled against the Red Sox pitchers and were unable to gain ground in the top of the third but the Red Sox showed no signs of slowing, scoring another four runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 12-2.

ROMSA only managed to get four batters to the plate in the top of the fourth inning but this time they held the Red Sox at bay in the bottom of the inning. The Red Sox shut the door again in the top of the fifth inning only allowing four batters to the plate and they added a single in the bottom of the inning to make it 13-2.

ROMSA added another run in the top of the sixth inning but it wasn’t enough as the Red Sox took the game 13-3 improving their record to 3-0.

Scoring the runs for the Red Sox were Margot Guy, Alison Roach, Ashley Wasylko-Fletcher and Sara Sloane with two each and Mia Ziegler, Reese Mariner, Adrianna VanBruegel, Alexis Sharpley and Emily Ryan each scored singles.

Red Sox 15 Greely 14: The Winchester Red Sox travelled to the Greely Shields Ball Park on Wed., May 16, to take on Greely #1 in ROSA. The Red Sox were coming off an impressive 13-3 victory to the ROMSA #1 team to remain undefeated as they looked to span their winning streak.

The Red Sox scored one run in the top of the first inning but allowed Greely to score four in the bottom half of the inning. The Red Sox got one back in the top of the second but Greely took a 6-2 lead scoring two more runs in the bottom of the second.

The Red Sox promptly tied the game with a big top of the third inning scoring four runs. Greely didn’t take that well and scored four runs to match the Red Sox in the bottom of the inning making it a 10-6 ball game.

The Red Sox’s bats remained hot in the top of the fourth inning as they tied the game again with four runs but again, Greely kept pace with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth making it 14-10. The Red Sox scored another four runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game for a third time but this time Greely had no answer in the bottom of the inning.

The Red Sox took their first lead of the game with a single in the top of the sixth to make 15-14. With their last at bat, Greely could take the game but it was the Red Sox shutting them down in the bottom of the sixth allowing five batters.

The Red Sox only had a lead for half an inning but came away with a 15-14 victory keep their winning streak alive.

Scoring the runs for the Red Sox were Emily Ryan with three, Sara Sloane, Alison Roach, Alexis Shapley and Adrianna VaBruegel each scored twice and Delany Johnson, Margot Guy, Amanda Shay and Ashley Wasylko-Fletcher each scored singles.

Up next: The Winchester Bantam Girls Red Sox travel to Casselman tonight Wed., May 23, to take on Casselman #1 at 7 p.m.
