Summer series heats up

MOREWOOD — While the heat wave kept numbers down during the summer’s first Meet Me on Main Street party, the roughly 200 that did attend were welcomed to the block party with open arms.

Food, music, and community is the spirit behind the event series that had originally been intended as a one-year deal to celebrate Canada’s 150. The success of the events however were beyond any expectation, and so, it was a no-brainer for North Dundas to bring the series back once again.

Five breweries from the surrounding area are featured throughout the five-night event. Two breweries each week will attend to highlight their local flavours and wine from Smokie Ridge Vineyard to also be enjoyed. Food from the local restaurants and stands are available throughout the evening.
Other organizations are featured during the events. Southgate Church in Winchester will be providing an inflatable obstacle course and had freezies in Morewood to help the participants to beat the heat. The North Dundas Fire Service is back again this year with information and fun all at one booth.
On deck to help kick things off were local members of council and candidates in the upcoming election. “We’re excited. This was supposed to be a one year event and at about the second week [event] people said we needed to bring it back. We are very happy with it again. The community support has been great. The excitement has been great,” said Mayor Eric Duncan.
“I think it’s great for the first evening and will be very successful,” added deputy mayor Gerry Boyce.
New this year are Meet Me on Main Street t-shirts available to buy for $15. There are four more events planned each Wednesday evening until Aug. 1 with plenty of bands to hear, food to try and drinks to be enjoyed.
