Blue became the 2018 Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League Champions for the fourth consecutive year after barely scraping by a tough Red squad on Thurs., Aug. 16. CHESTERVILLE—In the first game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey A Final, first place of the round robin, Blue took on second place Red, on Thurs., Aug. 16, at the Chesterville Arena. Blue finished the regular season with a 12-0-1 record and hadn’t lost a game in the round-robin portion of the playoffs and were the favourites heading into the A final. Red beat Yellow and Green in the round robin to finish in second place but lost to Blue.

In the opening game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League’s A final, Blue welcomed Red. Red gave it a valiant attempt but fell to Blue 5-3 late in the game. Blue 5 Red 3: Blue opened the scoring just two minutes into the first period as Carly Crump fired one to the back of the net on a breakaway from Rebecca Kennedy and Jaclyn Crump to take a 1-0 lead. Neither team was able to score before the buzzer went off to end the opening frame.

Blue made it 2-0 when Carly Crump scored her second of the game from Sam Benoit and Becca Alves just 45 seconds into the second period. Red got one back when Lesley Ann Tupper snapped one home from Kim Elliott at 4:02 to make it 2-1.

Blue took their second two-goal lead when Carly Crump scored her hat-trick goal just 43 seconds into the third period from Jaclyn Crump and Leigh Ann Dearing but Red answered as Jen Whitteker pounded one to the back of the net at 1:50 to make it 3-2.

Blue made it 4-2 at the three minute mark as Kara Bartholomew sniped one from Benoit and Lindsay Cummins but Red didn’t give up and with just seven seconds showing on the clock they got to within one as Tupper scored her second of the game from Elliott to make it 4-3 which stopped the clock.

Just after the face-off at centre, Blue’s Jaclyn Crump fired one from just outside the centre line into the empty net with just two seconds showing on the clock taking the game 5-3. Blue became the 2018 Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey Champions for the fourth consecutive season.

Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Roxanne Crump and suffering the loss in Red’s goal was Julia Shaver.
