Meet Me on Main Street tonight

MOREWOOD – The idea was inspired by Ottawa’s upcoming event Canada’s Table, a 1,000 person open-air table dining experience on Wellington Street to celebrate Canada 150. North Dundas modified the idea to befit a rural setting and has come up with a five-part series called Meet Me on Main Street. The poster explains, “A section of a main street will be closed to host residents and guests for live entertainment and the option to purchase Canadian-themed food such as poutine, beef on a bun and otter tails.”

Each evening event is held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. throughout July and the first week of August. It also includes a cash bar area, refreshments, and tables set up right down the middle of a closed-off street in each of the respective communities. Residents are encouraged to attend at least one of all of the events to enjoy, music, food and some community spirit for Canada 150.

Communications Officer Steven Mann said organizing has been in the works since April and the township has been working tirelessly to get all the pieces together. He added the events were about, “meeting your neighbours, local foods and great local bands.”

A number of sponsors have attached themselves to the events and Mann said the businesses and organizations were quick to donate and step up to the plate. Food will be provided by Loughlins and Winchelsea Events to name a few.

First up is today, Wed., July 5, in Morewood, on Moffat St., accompanied by the band, Hillbilly Highway. South Mountain is on Thurs., July 13, on Main St. also accompanied by Hillbilly Highway. Hallville takes the third slot on Wed., July 19, on Kerrs Ridge Rd. with the band Sons of Gord. Chesterville rounds out the penultimate spot on Wed., July 26, on Main St. with Marleen Fawcett. The final event will be in Winchester on Wed., Aug. 2, on St. Lawrence St. with Furious Gord.
