WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Girls’ Bantam-Midget Warriors welcomed the Osgoode ROMSA 1 team to the J. C. Whitteker Ball Park on Wed., May 17, in the Ottawa Rural Minor Soft Ball Association. The Warriors were supposed to play two games this past week but their game versus Casselman on Sun., May 14, was cancelled due to a wet field.

Warriors 13 Osgoode 8
The Warriors’ pitcher Cassie Hummel struck out one and caused two to pop up in the top of the first but their offence was stymied by Osgoode and the Warriors got four batters to the dish. Osgoode took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning but the Warriors fought that off in the bottom half of the inning scoring four runs and taking a 4-3 lead into the third inning.

Osgoode got one round trip but the Warriors held them to just that single run. The Warriors scored another four runs in the bottom of the third taking an 8-4 lead. The Pioneers’ defence held Osgoode off the score sheet in the top of the fourth inning and their offence connected for one more run in the bottom half of the inning.

Osgoode scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning but the Warriors matched that with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. With five complete innings in the book, the game ended due to the league’s curfew rule as the Warriors took the game 13-8.

Scoring the runs for the Warriors were Kalleigh Young, Cassie Hummel, Brooke Lapier and Chloe Zeigler each with two and Maggie Wells, Brooke Stewart, Morgan Hummel, Martina Lewis and Cassandra Young each scored singles.
