NORTH DUNDAS – The Chesterville Kayak Club held their 6th annual poker run on the Nation River on May 27, with the sun shining brightly, the water sparkling and the participants looking forward to the scenic 12-km route from Cass Bridge to Veteran’s Park in Chesterville.
Bob Forward, the go-to-guy for the Poker Run, described the event as a “fun”raiser designed to get people interested in kayaking and out on the Nation River.
He mentioned it generally takes participants about two hours to go from the boat launch at Cass Bridge Conservation Area to the Chesterville river access point adjacent to Veteran’s Park in that community.
Participants are provided with a card in their registration packet, with three poker stops along the 12-km route to the boat launch near Veteran’s Park in Chesterville, with the final card draw at the Chesterville Waterfront.
The winning poker hand receives $100, second place $75, with third and fourth place receiving $25 each. Participants received a Tim Hortons gift card and a coupon for $1.00 off a purchase at the Chesterville Farmers’ Market for the first 40 participants. Following the poker run, there was a luncheon at the Chesterville Legion and a free shuttle provided back to Cass Bridge if needed.
