AVONMORE – Avonmore residents will be celebrating 175 years as a community on Sept. 17, and according to Sophie Branchaud, Avonmore 175 Committee member, there are several plans in the works to commemorate this historic event including a community dinner, historic walking tour and family-oriented events on Sept. 17.

In preparation for these activities, a contest to design a logo for the anniversary is being held, with the submission deadline being Monday June 12.  Branchaud explained in an email to The Chesterville Record, the logo should be “simple enough in design to be used in multiple applications”, represent the community of Avonmore and be created in black and white.

She explained further that the winning logo is to be used in a variety of ways leading up to Celebration Day and may be “incorporated into a stunning collectible commemorative coin created just for Avonmore’s 175th birthday.”

There are plans to hold a poetry contest, with the winning poems of not longer than 250 words being featured on Celebration Day and an anthology of Avonmore created for the anniversary celebrations.
