WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg White Pioneers were supposed to play two home games this past week but due to the wet weather their first game on Tuesday night against the Winchester Red Sox was cancelled. The Pioneers did welcome the Kemptville #2 Wildcats on Thursday night.

Pioneers 7 Wildcats 4
The Williamsburg Major White Pioneers welcomed the Kemptville #2 Wildcats to the J. C. Whitteker Ball Park on Thurs., June 1, in the Upper Canada Little League. The Pioneers had not played for a week and a half due to the rainy weather and showed a little rust early but got back on track in the later innings.

The Wildcats scored a single run in the top of the first inning after getting seven batters to the plate. The Pioneers only got four batters to the plate in the bottom of the first but were unable to score.

The Wildcats scored two more in the top of the second inning but this time the Pioneers’ bats were hot scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning taking a 4-3 lead. The Wildcats tied the game at four in the top of the third inning after scoring a single but the Pioneers answered with three runs in the bottom half taking a 7-4 lead into the fourth inning.

The Pioneers’ pitcher Cam Shaver mowed down three Wildcat batters in the top of the fourth but the Pioneers’ offence were also shut down in the bottom of the fourth. The Wildcats had a chance to make it a close game in the top of the fifth inning but the Pioneers defence held the Wildcats off the score sheet.

The Pioneers didn’t need to bat in the bottom of the fifth as they took the game 7-4. Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Olivia Mudde, Terrence Mudde and Ben Joldersma scored two each and Dryden Buter scored a single.

Pitching for the Pioneers were Buter for the first and second innings, Cam Shaver for the third and fourth and Brayden Barrie pitched the fifth inning.
