CHESTERVILLE — There were two games played in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thursday night as Yellow played host to Red in the early game and Blue welcomed Black in the late game.

Yellow welcomed Red in the first game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., June 8, at the Chesterville Arena. Yellow and Red went into the game tied for second with five points each as both teams battled to take sole possession of the second seed.

Red opened the scoring just 1:43 into the first period as Lindsay Feeley fired one home from Marissa Imrie to take a 1-0 lead. Yellow answered right back when Jodi Hall scored at 2:38 from Alanah McRae.

Red retook the lead when Lesley Ann Tupper snapped one home from Geena Rose at 8:13 making it 2-1. Red took a two-goal lead when Janice Casselman snuck one to the back of the net from Rose at 13:40 but Yellow got that one back at 16:05 when Jodi Hall scored her second of the game from Lindsay Waddell and Patti Hall.

Red tied the game with 1:10 showing on the clock in the first period as Jenny Wright snapped one home from Angie Van Gurp. The teams took a three-all draw into the second period.

Yellow grabbed their first lead of the game when Van Gurp sniped one from Wright and Shannon McRae at 14:25 of the second period. Yellow took a two-goal lead when Jodi Hall completed her hat trick from Waddell and Patti Hall at 16:23 making it 5-3.

Red got to within one at 17:53 when Rose slapped one home from Catia Dias and Sara Desjardins. Yellow took a 5-4 lead into the third period. Red knotted the affair when Tupper scored her second of the game at 12:03 of the third period from Rose and Dias. Neither team was able to put away the game winner as the game ended in a five-all stalemate.

In the second game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League Blue welcomed Black on Thurs., June 8, at the Chesterville Arena. In the second game of the night Blue played host to Black. Blue went into the game with a perfect 6-0 record and sat seven points ahead of second-place Yellow and looked to run their winning streak to seven. Black sat alone at the bottom of the heap but with a win they could move to within one point of the third-place Red team.

Black opened the scoring when Jessica Winters pounded one home from Amy Bekkers and Sam Naish at 2:19 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. Black made it 2-0 when Karen Edwards sniped one from Theresa Schoones and Allison Erwin at 5:04. Black carried the 2-0 lead into the second period.

Blue got to within one as Carly Crump slapped one to the back of the net from Lindsay Cummins and Jaclyn Crump at 13:13 of the second period. With time winding down in the second period, Black struck again as Winters scored her second of the game from Heather Cook Erwin with just four seconds showing on the clock.

Black took a 3-1 lead into the third period. Blue got to within one as Cummins scored at 8:48 from Rebecca Kennedy but Black answered right back with a goal at 11:44 as Naish fired one home from Bekkers to make it 4-2.

Blue got to within one again as Cummins scored her second of the game from Becca Alves and Kennedy at 13:51 making it 4-3. Black put the final dagger into Blue’s heart when Winters completed her hat trick with just 1:36 remaining in regulations from Bekkers.

Black took the game 5-3 handing Blue their first loss of the season. Picking up the win in Black’s goal was Patti Mitton.

Red plays host to Blue in the opening game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., June 15 at 7 p.m. In the second game Yellow welcomes Black at 8 p.m.
