Red 4 Yellow 1
In the first game of the evening in the CWBHL, Yellow played host to Red in the last game of their regular season on Thurs., July 20, at the Chesterville Arena. The teams went into the final games of the regular season with only one thing to determine and that was who would finish in second and third.

Yellow led Red by four points two weeks ago but Red has since caught up and tied with Yellow for the number two spot. It only seemed fitting that they would face each other in the final game. Neither team was able to score in the first period as it was a feeling out period.

Red opened the scoring when Lesley Ann Tupper snapped one home from Geena Rose at 7:52 of the second period to take a 1-0 lead. Red made it 2-0 when Rose scored an unassisted goal at 12:50 and took the 2-0 lead into the third period.

Red exploded for two more quick ones as Rose scored her second of the game at 7:55 of the third to make it 3-0 and Sara Desjardins batted one to the back of the net at 9:26 from Marissa Imrie to make it 4-0. Yellow finally got one to the back of the net by Jennifer Whitteker and Alannah McRae at 15:36.

Unfortunately for Yellow that was as close as they could get as Red took the game 4-1 moving into sole possession of second place. The two teams will meet again next week in the round-robin portion of the playoffs.

Blue 2 Black 0
In the night cap, Blue welcomed Black in a game that didn’t have as much riding on it as the previous game but both teams were looking to build a little momentum heading into the playoffs next week. Blue clinched the top seed two weeks ago with 18 points after Yellow gave them a bit of a scare.

Blue’s Carly Crump #13 finished the season tied for most goals with Red’s Lesley Ann Tupper with 10. Crump also picked up 5 assists for 15 points to round out the top three in scoring. Moore photo

Black finished the regular season with just one win and two ties for four points. The two teams battled to a scoreless draw in the first period but Blue got on the board at 7:25 of the second period as Lindsay Cummins sniped one from Jaclyn Crump to take 1-0 lead.

Blue carried the 1-0 advantage into the third period. Black played Blue tight all night but couldn’t hold Carly Crump from scoring at 10:36 of the third period from Kelly Francis to make it 2-0.

Neither team could score before the final buzzer as Blue took the game 2-0 finishing the season with the league’s best 20 points. Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Roxanne Crump.
