CHESTERVILLE—In the second week of round- robin playoff action in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League this past Thursday, first-place Blue played host to second-place Red at the Chesterville Arena, while in the late matchup third-place Yellow welcomed fourth-place Black.

In the first game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., Aug. 3, the top two teams, Blue and Red, went head to head at the Chesterville Arena. The teams were also tied after the first games of the round-robin playoffs after Blue beat Black and Red took down Yellow in the first week.
The two teams battled to a scoreless first period and headed to the second period knotted at nil. Blue opened the scoring at 11:55 of the second period as Lindsay Cummins finished a play started by Cinnamon Boulanger to take a 1-0 lead.
Blue made it 2-0 just 1:31 later as Becca Alves snapped one home from Sam Benoit and Carly Crump. Blue took a 2-0 lead into the second period. Both teams battled hard in the third period but neither were able to get on the score sheet as Blue took the game 2-0 moving into sole possession of first place in the round robin.
Picking up the shutout in Blue’s goal was Roxanne Crump.

In the second game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., Aug. 3, Yellow welcomed Black in the second week of round-robin playoff action. Yellow’s centre Patti Hall reaches to push the ball forward as winger Alannah McRae (4) looks on. Hall led the way for Yellow with two goals and Yellow took the game 5-2 tying Red for second place in the round robin.

In the second game of the night, Yellow welcomed Black. Both teams came out on the short end last week in the first games of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League but they had a chance to move into a second-place tie with Red.
Yellow finished third in the regular season nine points ahead of Black. Yellow got right to work opening the scoring at 6:10 of the first period as Patti Hall fired one to the back of the net from Jodi Hall and Jenny Wright taking a 1-0 lead.
Yellow made it 2-0 when Patti Hall scored her second of the night from Jennifer Whitteker and Amber Saddlemire at 12:15. Yellow really put the pressure on Black making it 3-0 just 45 seconds later when Jodi Hall slapped one home from Wright and Stephanie Shane and then made it 4-0 when Angie VanGurp-Helmer batted one to the back of the cage from Whitteker and Alannah McRae.
Yellow took the 4-0 lead into the second period. Black finally got on the score sheet when Theresa Schoones fired a onetimer from Sam Naish and Sleena Shane at 16:49 of the second period to get to within three.
Yellow took the 4-1 lead into the third period. Black got to within two when Kaila Beckstead scored an unassisted goal at 5:09 of the third period. Unfortunately for Black, Yellow closed out the scoring at 15:01 when Whitteker sniped one from Jodi Hall and McRae taking the game 5-2 moving into a second-place tie with Red. Picking up the win in Yellow’s goal was Cashelle Baldwin.

In the third round of the round robin format of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League, Red takes on Black in the first game at the Chesterville Arena at 7 p.m. In the second game, Blue plays host to Yellow at 8 p.m.
