The Vikings’ Captain Sebastien Plante (12) scored two goals and picked up two helpers to help the Vikings destroy the Hawks 11-1. Plante also hit a milestone with his third point of the game as he hit the 300 point club in his career with the Vikings. Plante extended his points per game streak to 25 games in the win but sadly his streak ended on Saturday night when the Vikings travelled to Cobden to take on the Whitewater Kings.

COBDEN – The Casselman Vikings had two games this past weekend. The Vikings made a couple of moves at the trade deadline acquiring Jason Cossette from the Char-Lan Rebels and Shane Spencer from the Arnprior Packers.
Kings 3 Vikings 1: The Vikings travelled to the Cobden Arena to take on the Whitewater Kings on Sat., Jan. 13, in the CCHL2. The Vikings went into the game in first place in the Martin Division with a seven-point lead on the second-place Ottawa Canadians and were on a seven-game winning streak. The Kings sat in fifth place just two points behind the fourth-place Renfrew Timberwolves in the Richardson Division.
The Kings opened the scoring at the 16-minute mark of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Vikings pounded 11 shots on goal but were unable to cash in. The Kings took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Kings made it 2-0 at 15:06 of the second period in a much closer period shots-wise but the Vikings still outshot the Kings 7-6. The Kings took the 2-0 lead into the second intermission. The Vikings finally got on the board when Ethan Wensink snapped one home from Carter Malette and Gabriel Rousselle at 10:10 of the third period.
The Kings took a penalty with just over a minute remaining and the Vikings pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker but it was the Kings who found the abandoned cage at the far end with just 19 seconds remaining and hung on to take the game 3-1. The Vikings’ winning streak ended at seven and Sebastien Plante’s 25-game scoring streak also came to and end.
Suffering the loss in the Vikings’ goal was Nick Campbell making 16 saves on 18 shots.
Vikings 11 Hawks 1: The Vikings welcomed the Winchester Hawks to the J. R. Brisson Complex on Thurs., Jan. 11, in the CCHL2. The Vikings went into the game in first place in the Martin Division six points ahead of the second-place Ottawa Canadians in second. The Hawks were putting up a four-game win streak on the line but still sat in the cellar with 21 points.
The Vikings opened the scoring at 6:16 of the first period as Joseph Heath pounded home a rebound from Brendan Doherty and Kyle Millett to take a 1-0 lead. The Vikings made it 2-0 when Samuel Labre jumped on a short rebound in front of the Hawks’ goal with just 41 seconds remaining in the opening frame from Danyk Drouin and Jonathan Yaremko on the power play.
The Vikings took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission. The second period didn’t get any better for the Hawks as the Vikings made it 3-0 at 2:27 when Gabriel Rousel sniped one top shelf from Joel Hunt and Sebastien Plante and 4-0 when Doherty snapped one home from Hunt and Brady Cloutier at 10:15. Drouin gave the Vikings a 5-0 lead at 13:20 from Yaremko and Ethan Cahill.
The Hawks finally got on the score board as Christophe Lemay slid one home from Evan Landry at 14:35 but the Vikings answered when Doherty scored his second of the game from Jason Cossette and Isaac Lavallee.
The Vikings took a 6-1 lead into the second intermission. It was all Vikings in the third period as Andrew Black scored a short-handed goal at 3:45 from Hunt to make it 7-1. The Vikings made it 8-1 when Lavallee pounded one home from Plante and Kyle Millett at 4:06, 9-1 when Cossette snapped one to the back of the net from Ethan Wensink and Shane Spencer at 4:53 and 10-1 at 8:50 when Plante deposited one to the back of the net from Hunt and Lavallee.
The Vikings closed out the scoring when Plante scored his second of the game from Rousselle at 9:46 and hung on for an 11-1 thrashing of the Hawks. Plante ran his points scoring streak to 25 games and the newly acquired Jason Cossette and Shane Spencer who were picked up at the trade deadline got in on the scoring.
Picking up the win in the Vikings’ goal was Zachary Paputsakis making 24 saves on 25 shots.
