EMBRUN – Last Wed., Jan. 10, the Township of Russell greeted its first visitors when the new Sports Dome was officially opened to the public. Many residents have already visited or made use of the facilities as everyone has free access on every Wednesday of January 2018.

The construction of the 59,400 ft dome began in May 2017. It is located at 150 Sportsplex Road, between Embrun and Russell villages and includes a three lane walking/running track, fitness gym, tennis court, and will host programs for all ages and abilities. The adjacent 3,760 ft building includes change rooms with showers, conference room and restaurant.

In a statement on the dome, Mayor of Russell Township Pierre Leroux said, “Russell Township Sports Dome opening for public use will be remembered for years to come. I am extremely proud of the quality of our installations and even more of the hard work put forth by everyone   involved. It’s a testament to our community spirit. Dreams are simply the future, not yet realized, so Russell Township must continue to dream.”

Members of the public may purchase various types of passes at the dome or online at Russell.ca and also benefit from rebates on memberships until Jan. 31.
