Intermediate Ravens take championship
The St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School Ravens Boy’s basketball team took on the Rockland District High School Wildcats in the PRSSAA Championship game on Thurs., May 17. The Ravens showed no mercy defeating the Wildcats 51-30 taking their second consecutive title. RUSSELL—The St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School Ravens Boy’s basketball won the regular season going undefeated and were awarded the PRSSAA championship playoff at home on Thurs., May 17.

The Ravens had a bye right to the final and they faced the winner of the Russell High School T-Wolves and the Rockland District High School Wildcats who played in the morning.

Ravens 51 Wildcats 30: The Ravens ended up taking on the Wildcats who were victorious over the T-Wolves in the semifinal but faced a tough challenge against the Ravens. The Ravens offence went right to work scoring 18 first-quarter points and holding the Wildcats to nine.

The relentless Ravens tightened up defensively allowing only six points in the second quarter but still managed to dominate offensively scoring another 17 points. The Ravens took a comfortable 35-15 lead into the dressing room at halftime.

Both teams played a little more defensively in the third but the Ravens again outscored their opponents 8-2 taking a 43-17 leading the final stanza. The Wildcats had their best quarter scoring 13 points in the fourth and they held the Ravens offence to eight points but it wasn’t enough as the Ravens took the game 51-30.

With the win, the Ravens repeated at champions going the whole season without a loss. Scoring for the Ravens were: Aurel Tebeu with 18 points, Kallum Birch with 13, Kaden Mikkelson and James Verspeek each scored six, Logan Kinsella and Max Messervey scored three apiece, and Logan Verspeek pitched in with a deuce.

Birch also had a huge game defensively with 14 rebounds as did Mikkelson with eight rebounds and five steals.
