RUSSELL – The Russell Lions Club hosted the RCMP Musical Ride on Fri., June 1, for residents to enjoy. Organizer Connie Johnston said there was a full house and a great turnout. “The show was absolutely fabulous, really wonderful all around,” she said.
A fitting tribute

After the Capital Cowgirls finished their routine, the Canadian Canine training academy took to the field where along with demonstrations they performed a heart warming tribute for Jonathon Pitre. Johnston explained that Pitre’s dog Gibson was his constant companion and loyal friend.
Johnston continued that Gibson even knew to be extra gentle with Pitre. In the past, the Canadian Canine training academy had hosted Gibson to give him training. During the June 1 RCMP Musical Ride show, the academy made Gibson, led by Pitre’s mother Tina Boileau, an honourary service dog. Boileau was also presented with a painting of Gibson. “Everybody loved Jonny so much, it was a fitting tribute,” said Johnston.
The emotional and special event was capped off with the spectacular feats of the RCMP Musical Ride. Riders and their mounts even met with the spectators after the show in the ring.
The red uniforms lined the grounds and made for a fun evening out for the visitors and Township of Russell residents.
