MANOTICK—The Winchester Girls Bantam Red Sox played two games this past week as they welcomed Greely on Monday night and travelled to Manotick on Sunday night.

ROMSA 10 Sox 8: The Winchester Girls Bantam Red Sox travelled to Manotick on Sun., June 3, to take on ROMSA #1 in the Rural Ottawa Softball Association. The Red Sox went into the game on a high with a 16-9 win over Greely in the previous game stretching the undefeated streak to five games.

The Red Sox got off to a good start scoring four runs in the top of the first inning for which ROMSA had no answer in the bottom of the inning.

The Red Sox went three up and three down in the top of the second inning and this time ROMSA capitalized scoring four runs tying the game at four. The Red Sox only got four batters to the plate in the top of the third inning leaving one on third base.

Again ROMSA took advantage scoring four more runs in the bottom of the third taking an 8-4 lead. The Red Sox responded with four of their own in the top of the fourth inning tying the game at eight.

The Red Sox defence took over only allowing three to the plate in the bottom of the fourth taking an eight-all draw into the fifth inning. The Red Sox went three up and three down opening the door for ROMSA and they made it count scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the game 10-8.

The Red Sox’s unbeaten streak was snapped at five as they look to bounce back this week. Scoring the runs for the Red Sox were Amanda Shay with two, Ashley Wasylko-Fletcher, Reise Mariner, Alexis Sharpley, Emily Ryan, Margot Guy and Sara Sloane scoring singles.

Sox 16 Greely 9: The Winchester Girls Bantam Red Sox welcomed Greely to the 100 Club Ball Park on Mon., May 28, in the Rural Ottawa Softball Association. The Red Sox put their unbeaten streak on the line as they looked to improve on an impressive start to the 2018 season.

Greely opened the scoring with the maximum four runs allowed in the top of the first inning but the Red Sox answered promptly scoring four runs in the bottom of the first tying the game at four.

Greely went three up and three down in the top of the second inning and the Red Sox took advantage, scoring another four runs in the bottom half of the inning taking an 8-4 lead into the third inning.

Greely never made it to first base again in the top of the third as the Red’s defence stymied the sluggers. The Red Sox added another two runs in the bottom of the third taking a 10-5 lead. Greely scored a single in the top of the fourth inning but the Red Sox squashed any thoughts of Greely making a comeback scoring four more runs in the bottom of the fourth taking a 14-5 lead.

Greely made a push in the top of the fifth inning scoring four runs, cutting the deficit to 14-9. The Red Sox scored two in the bottom of the fifth to which Greely had no answer in the top of the sixth inning.

The Red Sox took the game 16-9 stretching their unbeaten streak to five games. Scoring the runs for the Red Sox were Alexis Sharpley with four, Alison Roach with three, Mia Ziegler, Ashley Wasylko-Fletcher and Amanda Shay with two each and Margot Guy, Adrianna VanBruegel and Reese Mariner each scored singles.

Next up: The Winchester Girls Bantam Red Sox travel to the Ludger Landry Ball Park in Gloucester on Mon. June 11, to take on Gloucester 1, at 6:30 p.m.
