In the first game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., June 14, at the Chesterville Arena, Yellow welcomed Blue. Blue’s goalie, Roxanne Crump gets out of position but her defensemen, Kerry Kennedy (12) was able to clear the ball before Yellow’s Jackie Morris (8) could slide it in the net. In the second game of the evening, Red played the host to Green. Green had reinforcements out on Thursday night as they welcomed back former scoring winner, Alex Roach (left) and she made an immediate impact scoring the game winning goal in the third period to give Green their first win of the season. CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League featured two games on Thursday night as Yellow welcomed Blue in the early game and Red took on Green in the late game.

Blue 7 Yellow 2: In the first game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., June 14, at the Chesterville Arena, Yellow welcomed Blue. Blue went into week eight with seven wins and no losses and looked to extend their winning streak to eight.

Yellow got off to a good start to their season but have since been on a slide. Yellow opened the scoring at 4:20 of the first period as Jackie Morris found the back of the net from Shannon McRae and Jessica Winters to take a 1-0 lead.

Blue tied the game just 48 seconds later as Rebecca Kennedy slammed one home from Sam Benoit and Leigh Ann Dearing and took their first lead of the game at 11:24 when Jaclyn Crump slipped one home from Anna Fawcett and Dearing taking a 2-1 lead. Blue made it 3-1 when Lindsay Cummins swatted one home from Fawcett and Benoit at 14:50.

Yellow got to within one as Winters sniped one from Morris and Lindsay Waddell with just 35 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Blue took the 3-2 lead into the second period. Blue went up by two as Benoit slapped one to the back of the net from Cinnamon Boulanger and Dearing at 6:40 of the second period.

Blue made it 5-2 as Benoit scored her second of the game from Boulanger and Dearing at 7:47 and 6-2 at 10:10 as Benoit completed her hat trick from Fawcett and Cummins. Blue took the 6-2 lead into the third period. In the final frame, Blue opened up a five-goal lead as Boulanger pounded one home from Cummins and Dearing at 4:45 of the third period.

Blue hung on for the 7-2 victory to remain undefeated in the season with eight consecutive wins. Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Roxanne Crump and suffering the loss in the Yellow’s goal was Patti Mitton.

Green 2 Red 1: In the second game of the evening, Red played the host to Green. Red sat in second place with four wins and three losses and Green was still looking for their first win of the season. Green welcomed back a former league scoring champion Alex Roach to their lineup to try to get some more offence.

The two teams battled to a scoreless first period but Green opened the scoring at 3:30 in the second period as newcomer, Erin Cochrane sniped one from Selena Shane and Karen Edwards to take a 1-0 lead.

Red tied the game at one when Kaila Beckstead snapped one to the back of the net from Lesley Ann Tupper and Katie Curry. The teams took a one-all draw into the third period. Green retook the lead when Roach scored her first goal of the season from Cochrane and Laura McDonell just 2:26 into the third period.

Red could not get the game to even before the final buzzer went off with Green winning their first game of the season and now trail Yellow by two points for third place. Picking up the win in Green’s goal was Cashelle Baldwin and suffering the loss in the Red’s goal was Julia Shaver.

Up next: In the first game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., June 21, Red welcomes Blue at 7 p.m. and in the late game Yellow plays host to Green.
