Sunset at the midway
The South Mountain Fair was busy on Fri., Aug. 17, following the 30th anniversary of the demolition derby as fairgoers took to the midway. The sun sets on the second day of the fair as the ride, the Paratrooper, takes riders on a view of the fairgrounds. Along with a plethora of rides there were also games to test one’s skills out, all weekend, with a chance to win big stuffed toys.   Moore photo

CHESTERVILLE—The 126th South Mountain Fair kicked off on Thurs., Aug. 16, with the opening ceremonies featuring North Dundas Mayor Eric Duncan and SDG MP Guy Lauzon among others. Attendees on the opening night were treated to the midway, a children’s corn maze and a truck pull.

On Friday night, the big attraction was the 30th anniversary of the demolition derby. The crowds were down slightly but there were quite a few on hand despite the threat of rain and a thunderstorm.

Saturday featured poultry show, baby contest, 4-H Dairy Showmanship and Achievement Program, Capital Cow Girls drill team and later in the evening the bands, Doc Walker and Silver Creek.

Sunday was also packed with things to do and see such as Eastern Ontario Garlic Festival, 4-H Beef Achievement Program, a heavy horse and miniature show, tractor pull, a petting zoo, Simmental and Angus cattle show and the entertainment feature Carroll Baker and Michelle Wright in the entertainment tent.
