ALEXANDRIA — The Casselman Vikings played two games this past weekend as they welcomed the Ottawa Jr. Canadians on Thursday night and travelled to Alexandria on Friday night to take on the Glens.

Vikings 6 Glens 0
The Casselman Vikings travelled to the Billy Gebbie Arena in Alexandria, to take on the Glens on Fri., Nov. 9, in the CCHL2. The Vikings were coming off a tough loss to the first place Ottawa Jr. Canadians the previous night and would be shorthanded a couple of players due to suspension. The Glens sat in fifth place in the Martin Division two points behind the Char-Lan Rebels in fourth.

The Vikings opened the scoring at the 11-minute mark in the first period as Brandon Legare scored his fourth goal of the season from Etienne Aguis-Pease and Kyle Green taking a 1-0 lead. The Vikings made it 2-0 at 14:02 when Louis Chabot scored his sixth goal of the season from Mathieu Talbot and Pierce Britton.

The Vikings took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission. The Vikings added to their lead just 1:09 into the second period as Joshua Paledeau scored his third of the season from Brady Cloutier and Britton. With just 1:08 remaining in the second period, the Vikings took a four-goal lead as Chabot scored his second of the game and seventh of the season from Joel Hunt. The Vikings took a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Vikings made it 5-0 as Frederick Gagnier scored his eighth of the season on a penalty shot at 10:41. The Vikings closed out the scoring when Riley MacDonald scored his first junior goal of his career with just 46 seconds remaining in the game from Innes Thompson and Samuel Labre.

The Vikings took the game 5-0 and outshot the Glens 55-33. Picking up the shutout in the Vikings’ goal was Nicholas Campbell making 33 saves.

The second place Vikings had a chance to move to within two points of the first place Canadians in the Martin Division with a victory but it was going to be tough as the Canadians had only one loss this season.

The Canadians jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 4:48 and took a 2-0 lead at 10:50 on the power play. The Canadians took a three-goal lead at 14:01 and took the 3-0 lead into the first intermission. The Canadians scored the lone goal of the second period at 3:26 and took a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Vikings finally got on the board when Frederick Gagnier scored his seventh goal of the season at 3:28 of the third period from Joel Hunt and Pierce Britton. The Canadians took a 5-1 lead at 5:20 but the Vikings cut into the deficit with just 25 seconds remaining as Hunt scored his 16th of the season from Louis Chabot and Shawn Patterson on the power play.

The game got a little out of control after the final buzzer went off as a fight ensued and the teams combined for 62 minutes in penalties on the final stoppage. The Canadians took the game 5-2. With the loss the Vikings fell to six points behind the Canadians for first place.

The Vikings outshot the Canadians 35-20. Suffering the loss in goal for the Vikings was Nicholas Campbell making 15 saves on 20 shots.
