Ravens take PRSSA A Championship

RUSSELL—The St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School Junior Ravens boys’ basketball team welcomed the École secondaire catholique de Casselman Dynamos on Wed., Feb. 20 for the PRSSA Championship. 

Ravens 63 Dynamos 57

The Ravens went into the game after qualifying for EOSSAA the previous week, winning the A championship in PRSSAA and they looked to take the PRSSAA AA Dynamos down for the PRSSA overall championship. 

The Dynamos lit the Ravens up early scoring 23 points and holding the Ravens to just 10 in the opening quarter. The two teams battled to a 19-all second quarter but the Dynamos took a 42-29 lead into the the break at half-time. 

The Dynamos narrowly outscored the Ravens in the third quarter 10-9 as they headed into the final quarter with a 52-38 lead. It was all Ravens in the fourth quarter dropping an amazing 25 points over the AA Dynamos and holding them to just five points on the defensive side of things. 

The Ravens hung on for an impressive 63-57 victory, winning the trophy for the PRSSA A Championship. Scoring for the Ravens were Matt Pietrkiewicz with 24 points, Callum Birch with 14, Callum Tait with nine, Dylan Clune with six, Kai Daniel with five, N. P. with three and Aiden Nyentap with a deuce.
