WINCHESTER—The North Dundas Major Midget Demons played four games this past week in the UCMHL final as they welcomed the Char-Lan Rebels on Tuesday night for game one, travelled to Char-Lan for game two on Wednesday night and game three on Friday night before heading back to Winchester on Monday night for game four.

The North Dundas Major Midget Demons welcomed the Char-Lan Rebels to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Mon., March 25, for game four of the first to five points UCMHL final. The Demons led the series four points to two after dropping game three 6-1 to the Rebels but could still close out the series with a win or a tie. 

The Rebels opened the scoring  with 1:47 remaining in the first period and took a 1-0 lead into the second period. 

The Demons tied the game when Cam Sherrer banked one in from behind the net from Colin Minish and Dean Lapier at 4:23 of the second period. The Rebels got that one back at 6:50 but the Demons tied the game again when Kendrew Byers slapped a drifter through a crowd in front of the net and it found its way to the back of the cage from Josh Broad and Jaymen Hueff with 1:24 remaining in the middle-frame. The teams took a two-all draw into the third period. 

The Rebels retook the lead at 3:51 of the third period. The Rebels had a few chances to put the game out of reach after the Demons took six minutes in penalties in the third, but goaltender Liam Antille turned a few tough shots away. 

With the clock winding down, the Demons pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker but they could not establish control in the offensive zone and time ran out. The Rebels took the game 3-2 forcing a fifth and final game with both teams tied at four points in the series.

The North Dundas Major Midget Demons travelled to the Char-Lan Recreation Centre in Williamstown on Fri., March 22, to take on the Rebels in game three of the first to five points UCMHL final. The Demons took game one by a score of 5-4 and game two 3-2 taking a four points to none lead in the series so a win or a tie would solidify the championship. 

The Demons opened the scoring when Dean Lapier blasted one from the top of the right circle of a face-off win by Colin Minish just 2:31 into the first period taking a 1-0 lead. Neither team could find the back of the net for the remaining 13 minutes so the Demons took a 1-0 lead into the second period. 

It was all Rebels in the second period scoring two unanswered goals at 4:17 on the power play and taking the lead at 11:05. The Rebels took a 2-1 lead into the third period. 

The Demons were frustrated as the Rebels scored four more unanswered goals at 3:57, 5:40, 5:57 and finally at 12:31 taking the game 6-1. With the loss, the Demons’ lead in the series with four points to two as they head back to Winchester for game four. Suffering the loss in the Demons’ goal was Liam Antille.

The North Dundas Major Midget Demons travelled to the Char-Lan Recreation Centre in Williamstown on Wed., March 20, to take on the Rebels in game two of the first to five points UCMHL final. The Demons trailed in game one until halfway through the third period when they took their first lead of the game and hung on for a 5-4 victory taking a two points to none series lead and looked to go up by four points. 

The Rebels opened the scoring just 1:32 into the first period. The Rebels made it 2-0 at 9:38 and took that lead into the second period. 

The Demons cut the deficit to one when Dean Lapier blasted one home from Curtis Bell and Colin Minish at 2:25 into the second frame. The Demons knotted the affair at two when Ben Fingler snapped one home from Lapier at 3:54 and took their first lead of the game at 8:28 as Jaymen Hueff pounded one to the back of the net from Blake Waters and Josh Broad. The Demons took a 3-2 lead into the third period. 

The teams traded scoring chances in the final frame but neither team was able to pick up the game winner as the Demons hung on to take the game 3-2. With the win, the Demons took a four points to none lead and could finish the series off with a win or a tie as they head back to Char-Lan for game three. Picking up the win in the Demons’ goal was Liam Antille.

Demons 5 Rebels 4

The North Dundas Major Midget Demons welcomed the Char-Lan Rebels to the Chesterville Arena on Tues., March 19, for game one of the first to five points UCMHL final. The Demons upset the second place Cornwall Colts in the second round and moved on to face the Rebels who finished in first through the regular season. 

The Rebels opened the scoring at 9:44 on the power play but the Demons tied the game at 11:49 when Cam Sherrer snapped one home from Colin Minish. The Rebels retook the lead at 12:07 and took a 2-1 lead into the second period. 

The Demons tied the game again when Minish slipped one home from Brad McLean just 1:28 into the second period. The Rebels retook the lead with only 40 seconds showing on the clock in the middle frame taking a 3-2 lead into the third period. 

The Demons knotted the affair when Owen Richardson plowed one to the back of the net from Ben Fingler just 1:24 into the third period but the Rebels retook the lead again at 4:23. The Demons tied the game at 4:57 as Fingler blasted one home from Joey Hannaford to make it 4-4. 

The Demons took their first lead of the game at 6:09 when Dean Lapier sniped one from Minish and Fingler. The Demons were able to hold the Rebels at bay for the remainder of the game taking it by a score of 5-4. With the win, the Demons took a two points to none lead in the series. Picking up the win in the Demons’ goal was Toby Byrne.
