CHESTERVILLE – The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League met for another week of games at the Chesterville Arena on Thurs., May 23. Blue played host to Red in the early game and Green welcomed Yellow in the late game.

Blue 2 Red 1
The Blue and Red teams have been going head-to-head for top spot in the league this season, each vying for the title. Each had the chance to pull ahead on Thursday when the two met for the 7 p.m. game.

Blue opened the scoring at 14:00 of the first period when Kara Bartholomew found her mark with helpers from Marissa Imrie and Lindsay Waddell. Tensions were high and Red’s Marlee Grady was called for slashing at 5:20 in the first. The penalty was one of only a couple garnered in the league this season so far.

Red was back at full strength by 2:20 of the period and made a play to tie the game with only 45 seconds remaining on the clock. Steph Dafoe sailed one into the net with assists from Theresa Schoones and Emma Grady, making the score 1-1 heading into the second period.

Neither team was able to get past the other’s defences during the second period and the one-all draw continued into the third period.

The 1-1 stalemate looked to continue until the end of the game until Lindsay Cummins found an opening at 3:55 of the final frame. Cummins got the assists from Bartholomew and Kelly Francis. Blue closed out the game 2-1.

Taking home the win in Blue’s goal was Olivia Salmon, and suffering the loss in Red’s was Cashelle Baldwin.

Green 4 Yellow 2
Green welcomed Yellow in the 8 p.m. slot in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League.

Yellow opened the scoring at 10:00 in the first period with a goal from Cinnamon Boulanger, assisted by Rebecca Alves and Alex Roach. Green wasn’t able to match the point and Yellow took the 1-0 lead into the middle frame.

The game picked up speed in the second period when Green’s Selena Shane found the back of the net at 14:25 from Karen Edwards. Yellow answered back at 7:40 when Sam Benoit scored from Boulanger and Alves.

Green didn’t let Yellow have the 2-1 lead for long as Jackie Morris tied the game again at 4:27 from Sara Casselman. The teams took the 2-2 tie into the final period.

Green lit a fire and made a play for the win at 11:52, when Morris sniped her second of the game from Edwards and Jaclyn Crump. Yellow couldn’t get past the Green defence and Morris made it a hat trick at 1:10 with a helper from Crump. Green held onto the two-goal lead to take the game 4-2.
