MOREWOOD – Over the next few weeks there are a multitude of winter carnivals planned for communities in the area. Morewood Winter Carnival is one of the first of the season and was held over the weekend of Jan. 24 to 26.

The Morewood Recreation Association and the firefighters from North Dundas Fire Station No. 1 in Morewood worked together to create a fun-filled carnival with family friendly events for people of all ages.

The full schedule of events began with the official opening on Fri., Jan. 24 with North Dundas Mayor Tony Fraser praising the volunteers and organizers, noting events such as this speak to the importance of the work done by volunteers. The Firefighter Family Bingo night followed the Mayor’s remarks and once again proved an opening night winner.

Saturday had a full roster of events beginning with the firefighter breakfast in the Morewood Community Hall followed by a euchre tournament sponsored by the Chesterville & District Lions Club, craft activities, a colouring contest, face painting sponsored by Morewood Presbyterian Church and an afternoon show from The Zoo Crew.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities there was a three-on-three hockey tournament which continued throughout the carnival until the weather forced a stop, log sawing competitions and tug of war. All that activity was sure to work up an appetite and the canteen run by the Morewood RA committee served up refreshments throughout the carnival. A carnival supper finished the Saturday activities. A planned fireworks’ display was cancelled due to weather conditions.
