FINCH – Over the May long weekend, volunteers planted the Finch Recreation Community Gardens.  Andrew Jacques, owner of Wholesome Growth Garden, is taking the lead on the project this year and provided many of the starter plants and seeds that were planted on May 21.

“This year, I have organized the planting initiative and plan to oversee the growth of the vegetation in the raised beds all year for donation to the Winchester food bank, and also plant a fall garden later in the year with the intent to harvest right until the weather permits,” commented Jacques.

There are seven raised beds in the Finch Park Community Garden location and two at the Finchview Villa. Gail Shaver, who cares for the garden beds at Finchview Villa received some plants and seeds for planting in those garden beds from Andrew Jacques.

At the Finch Park Community Garden location, there are containers of wildflowers that are designed to “encourage pollinators to visit the garden area” as well as adding colour to the site. This year two composters were added to provide a location for pulled weeds and North Stormont Fire Station No. 1 in Finch will ensure the large water container will be kept full.

The social media post noted “produce will be collected and donated to Community Food Share to support local families in need. Great job! Always so proud of our little village!”
