SD&G – Get out your bike or lace up your walking shoes. It’s the Dundas County 2022 CTC Bike-A- Thon and it’s a terrific way to get some exercise while supporting one of the region’s most important children’s services. Spearheaded by local lawyer, Doug Grenkie, Dundas County participants can join in and make a positive difference in the lives of children.

Whether you decide to bike-it or hike-it and whether you do it alone or with friends or family, it’s a great way to keep fit. What’s best is you can personalize your schedule and choose your own route, whether it be around your neighbourhood or out on one of the many area pathways. What’s best? Your participation and generosity will help fund a priceless community resource.

For over 25 years, the Children’s Treatment Centre has provided counselling services to children who have been physically, sexually, or emotionally abused. Of the more than 2,500 regional case referrals, close to 300 of have come from Dundas County.

The Treatment Centre is funded entirely by the community and receives no funding from government. Its services are made possible because of community generosity along with a number of fund-raising events held each year, among which is the Bike-A-Thon.

The Centre has become a lifeline for these children, many of whom have gone on to become some of its best ambassadors. What’s best? It’s because of you that the Centre succeeds.

Grenkie, who has been a strong supporter of the Treatment Centre for many years, is looking forward to a huge turnout from Dundas. “The Treatment Centre is important to our community and events such as the Bike-A-Thon is one way we can all show our support. My family plans to be out there and we hope you will, too.”

Grenkie’s thoughts are echoed by the centre’s president, Don Fairweather.

“Since 1996, the CTC has served 2,926 children from 2,527 families from Cornwall, the Counties of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry and the community of Akwesasne with 10 per cent of the children having consistently come from Dundas County.”

Peter Asquini, chair of the Bike-A-Thon and former area manager for BMO Bank of Montreal adds: “BMO has been the sponsor for the CTC Bike-A-Thon for the past 15 years and the BMO team is proud to support the wonderful service the centre provides to abused children and their families across the region.”

Here are the details on how you can participate: Choose your dates and times between now and June 30; Go with family, friends or on your own; Choose your route … around your neighbourhood or on one of our many picturesque area pathways; Tell us how far your Bike-a-Thon journey took you.

Get your pledge sheet, join with friends and family and together, you can make a difference in a child’s life. After all, they are our future and the future of our community.”
