Carefor North-Stor Support Centre ready for fall fun

One of several Carefor locations, Carefor North-Stor Support Centre has been in operation since 1993, serving both seniors aged 55 and up, as well as adults with physical disabilities for those living in the township of North Stormont. The North-Stor Support Centre is located at 6 Nelson Street in Finch. In addition to its many programs and services, North-Stor also hosts a variety of fun events throughout the year.

North-Stor’s Fall Fair is set for tomorrow, Fri., Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s open to everyone and will include a variety of fun activities, prizes, vendors, crafts, bake sale, homemade soup, and more, including tours of the facility.

Then, on Fri., Oct. 7 at 12 p.m., North-Stor is hosting a “Friendsgiving” Thanksgiving Dinner. This includes homemade turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, gravy, dinner roll, and pumpkin pie. The cost is $12 per person and seats can be reserved by phoning 613-984-2436.

Carefor North-Stor Support Centre offers a variety of programs and services. The Meal Delivery program delivers lunchtime meals directly to a person’s home, while the Congregate Diners’ Club offers an opportunity to eat, to socialize, and to be entertained. The DinnerMates Meal Kits provide instructions along with all necessary ingredients to prepare a dinner for two.

Available services also include non-urgent transportation, footcare clinic, health and wellness clinics, caregiver support, and an adult day program. Specially trained footcare nurses help active people, diabetics, people with heart and circulatory problems, seniors, and people with tired and sore feet. Carefor’s registered nurses also provide blood pressure checks, medication reviews, as well as glucose and cholesterol monitoring. One-on-one caregiver support is available, along with resources and community connections. The Adult Day program offers caregivers a day of respite, while providing supervised and supportive activities for seniors and people with specialized needs, such as dementia and physical disabilities.

In addition to programs and services, Carefor North-Stor Support Centre also offers a variety of social and recreational activities. Coffee Club meets weekdays at 8:15 a.m. for coffee, tea, and conversation. Free live virtual exercise classes via Zoom are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10 a.m. On Wednesdays, the centre offers Active Hatha Yoga at 9 a.m. and Gentle Chair Yoga at 11 a.m. Fitness Class is held on Fridays at 9:30 a.m. The fitness and yoga classes are $5 per class. A free Knitting Group meets on Fridays at 1 p.m., while a free Write-It-Now Group meets on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m., helping attendees write their own stories.

The month of October includes free Pumpkin Fridays. Every Friday at 1 p.m. participants can dine-in or take-out that week’s pumpkin-themed treat for free. Other activities include the following: Elvis Movie Matinee, Line Dancing Lessons, Paint Afternoon and Crafts, Halloween Party, and more.

Carefor is currently hosting a 50/50 raffle to raise money in support of the Carefor Meal Delivery Program in the eastern counties. The draw date is Nov. 22. The cost is $10 for one ticket, $20 for three tickets, or $50 for 10 tickets. The 2021 raffle winner took home more than $11,200.
